5 tips for a better night’s sleep

Digital Detox

Although easier said than done, detoxing ourselves from all things digital in our bedroom space may just be the key to a better night's sleep. Our phones can be such a distraction for our mind, not to mention extra strain on our eyes from the bright lights. Try limiting yourself to being on your phone for a certain amount of time each night, or if you can, even removing your phone from your bedroom altogether to help your mind focus entirely on shutting down for the night.

Organise & Declutter

Busy lifestyles can lead to mess that’s hard to keep on top of, and this can stress us out even more! Work on clearing your bedroom of anything that distracts you or makes you feel stressed such as piles of clothing or work documents. We should be able to associate our bedrooms with a haven of relaxation where we can forget about the little stresses of life. Although it may seem a pain at the time, taking that extra time in the morning to straighten out those sheets and make your bed will help you to feel more organised and set a precedent for your day.

Wind down time

Taking time to wind down before you get into bed is vital in making sure you have a clear mind that is ready for sleep. Take some time just for yourself, whether it's reading a book, watching your favourite TV show or taking a relaxing bath - this will really help in forgetting any stress you may have endured in the day time, getting your head in the right space for sleep.

Sleep-friendly surroundings

Surround yourself with calming colours and relaxing accessories to help create a serene atmosphere. Try soft greens and blues that trigger thoughts of nature and tranquil settings, making a room that is reminiscent of the peaceful outdoors. Check out our blog ‘creating a relaxing bedroom space’ for some tips and suggestions in achieving sleep-friendly surroundings.

Consistency

If we can aim to get to sleep and wake up at the same time each day this can work in improving both our internal body clocks and our mood. If you want to get into a habit of falling asleep at the same time each night, it’s a good idea to log what times you begin to feel tired each day. Aim to go to bed around this time each night instead of going to bed earlier to avoid tossing and turning for a better quality sleep.
